Legacy Scholarship



Overview

  • Greg King was known for his passion in the kitchen, his unwavering dedication, and a work ethic that inspired everyone around him. In his honour, the BC Hospitality Foundation, together with the King Family, offers the $1,500 Greg King Legacy Scholarship—awarded annually to one individual pursuing a culinary career in a registered program anywhere in BC.


  • This scholarship isn’t just about funding your education—it’s about carrying forward Greg’s spirit of excellence, creativity, and commitment to the culinary arts. If you’re driven, passionate, and ready to make your mark in the kitchen, this scholarship is for you.

Successful applicants will be: 

  • BC residents accepted into the 6-month Culinary Arts or 1-year Diploma program at the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts;
  • Passion and work ethic similar to Greg King; and
  • Must be willing to work in BC’s hospitality industry for at least 2 years after receiving the scholarship.

Submit a 500-700 word essay explaining why you are applying, sharing your passion for the culinary arts and your career goals, and how this scholarship will help you pursue your education and advance your culinary journey *

Include the name or description of the course(s) you have applied for.

Provide academic transcripts and any culinary-related diplomas.

Include two reference letters from non-family members.

* Essay specifics: Outline any experiences, achievements, or challenges that have shaped your path in the culinary field, and be authentic, clear, and professional in your writing.



The successful applicant will be chosen for their:

  • Passion for culinary arts and professional growth;
  • Alignment with Greg King’s dedication and work ethic;
  • Commitment to working in BC’s hospitality industry;
  • Academic readiness and experience in culinary training;
  • Ability to share their story through the essay; and
  • The strength of reference letters.



About Greg King


Greg King, born with a love for cooking, knew by age 10 that he wanted to pursue a culinary career. At 22, he was working as a chef at Cactus Club Park Royal, aiming to one day open his own restaurant. Tragically, Greg passed away in a car accident in August 2014 before he could realize his dream.



Known for his passion, dedication, and generosity in the kitchen, Greg left a lasting impression on colleagues, friends, and family. The Greg King Legacy Scholarship continues his memory by supporting emerging chefs who share his enthusiasm for food, excellence, and commitment to the culinary profession in British Columbia.
