About Terry Threlfall

Born and raised in British Columbia, Terry Threlfall made a lasting impact on the local, national, and international wine communities. From developing a groundbreaking wine program as Wine Director at Hawksworth, to serving six years as Head Sommelier and Wine Buyer at London’s Michelin-starred Chez Bruce, Terry’s career was defined by skill, insight, and a dedication to sharing his knowledge. He was repeatedly recognized as Festival Sommelier at the Vancouver International Wine Festival, and in 2012, he was named Sommelier of the Year by Vancouver magazine, the VIWF, and California’s Sunset Magazine. Terry was also the first Canadian Sommelier to serve as a regular Decanter panelist.

Terry passed away unexpectedly in 2020, at the age of 43, but his legacy lives on through this scholarship. Known for his warmth, integrity, and mentorship, Terry inspired countless colleagues and aspiring wine professionals. This scholarship is a way to continue that spirit—offering emerging sommeliers an opportunity to learn, explore, and grow in the international wine community, just as Terry would have encouraged.
